Service Learning: The Housing Crisis

on May 9, 2024 By Molly Huddle Coffey | community
This quarter, all students took part in a hands-on research project about poverty and the housing crisis in English class. This crisis affects all parts of the country, and our students wanted to learn more about the causes and possible solutions for this huge problem. In a state-wide study, the Vermont Housing and Finance Agency found that Vermont alone would need 30,000-40,000 new housing units by 2030.

Celebrating the Legacy of MLK

on January 25, 2023 By Abbey Baker | Open & Inclusive college community
At Rock Point, we believe in taking a ‘day on’ instead of a ‘day off’ to honor a historical hero with as important a legacy as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year, on Martin Luther King Day, students were invited to St. Michael’s College to participate in a full day of events celebrating the legacy of Dr. King. The entire student body loaded up our vans and headed to the SMC campus, where we were greeted by an admissions counselor. We heard about the college, took a tour of the campus, then joined in with their MLK Day celebration.

Meet our New Director of Food Services (Chef)

on July 18, 2022 By Molly Huddle Coffey | community
When Kevin Douglas, our long-time School Chef, resident Star Wars expert, house band, and sometime Martial Arts teacher announced he was leaving RPS this spring, we set out to find a chef who could bring their own set of skills and passions to the position. We knew we could never find someone just like Kevin, but we thought we might find someone who could make a creative and delicious school menu, mentor our students in the kitchen, and share their interests with the community.
