On May 21st, Rock Point Students attended the 30th Vermont Young Playwrights Festival at Maine Street Landing. Rock Point School has participated in the Vermont Young Playwrights project since it's inception and we love seeing our students watch their work come to life on the stage. Earlier this year, students worked with a professional playwright, Molly Kirshner, to write their own 10-minute plays. Some of the plays were performed at school in March during the Arts Fest and then submitted to the Festival.
At the Playwright Festival this year, students had the opportunity to join workshops like "The Joy of Clowning" and "Working the Scene." They also watched plays written by other students throughout the state and performed by professional actors. "I really enjoyed watching the cold readings and staged readings of the plays. It was so interesting to see how the actors interpreted the work, especially the plays I knew," said Moss (grade 12).
We are so proud of our two seniors who had their plays selected for the Festival! "The Battle Against the Parasite," by Vira K. was given a cold reading by actors, while Dany P.'s play "The Epic Duel Between Two Knights Who are Very Rich and Handsome and Single " was given a staged reading. Both writers received feedback from the actors and the audience about their work.
Thanks to Vermont Stage and all the artists who make this program possible!
