Electives are spaces where students pursue interests, build skills, and connect their learning to future goals. These courses are intentionally designed to cultivate engagement, agency, and voice—core elements of our pedagogical approach. Through choice‑driven, interest‑based courses, students explore passions, practice leadership, and apply what they learn in meaningful contexts.
Elective classes meet three mornings a week and are taught by our classroom teachers. Teachers choose a creative offering to teach, which gives them the chance to connect with students about content unrelated to their core classes. Elective choices change from quarter to quarter and from year to year depending on student interest. Some students try a new elective each quarter, while others find a passion in one of our elective classes and hone in on it throughout their time at Rock Point.
The goal of the program is to complement the skill‑building that happens in academic classes and residential life, giving students multiple pathways to explore and apply their own creative and educational interests, express themselves, and develop confidence in directing their own learning.
