Prom 2022

prom2022

Prom is a rite of passage for many high school students. It can also be a source of stress and anxiety, a time when some people feel left out or overlooked. At Rock Point School, we want prom to be a celebration of spring and the end of the school year that every student can enjoy. We try to infuse fun and not take things too seriously, which is why the dress code is flexible and often involves costumes and wigs. While it’s unlikely that you’ll see “Prom-posals” in the hallways, our students get excited about our prom traditions, and the prom committee loves creating a fun theme that stays secret from the rest of the school.

The 2022 prom committee decided to make the prom a “middle school dance.” They chose songs from their middle school years and picked activities that reminded them of being kids again. During the dance, there was an activity station named for each senior. Dance Dance Revolution, Pin-tail-on-the-Eula-Corn, slime-making station, a Photo Booth, and Mini-Golf were a hit. Minecraft-themed rice crispies and Furby-shaped cookies kept the energy high.

In addition to these fantastic touches, the pre-prom activities put on by the staff were also a big hit. The Hydration Station was going strong with C.J., Gibson, and Stanton in charge of making smoothies and milkshakes. History teacher, Gus, captained his final Lame-O - a pirate-themed float that each student got to ride on and treats down at the Conference Center in treasure chests for riders to enjoy. Our Office and Systems Manager, Mary Hamilton, set up beautiful tables outdoors with flowers and Lake Champlain chocolates for everyone to enjoy a  steak and pasta meal cooked by Chef Kevin.

Of course, as with any Rock Point event, it would not be complete without appreciation! At the opening of the dance, each junior class member presented a senior class member with a flower and a few words of recognition. These heartfelt speeches kick off a series of acknowledgments and farewells for the class of 2022 that will continue this week with Senior Appreciation Circles.
