Art Walk: Meet Peter Small Through His Sculptures

on October 3, 2020 By CJ Spirito | art show public event
Peter Small was a prolific sculptor and produced hundreds of pieces throughout his life. He began working with clay in the 1980s, and the human head was his most constant subject. He enjoyed experimenting and perfecting new techniques, such as the "ribbon" technique (in some of the sculptures above), which involved creating delicate patterns with "ribbons" of clay to form a more significant structure. Peter passed away in 2013, and about 20 of his sculptures found a new home at RPS. We are very grateful to have these art pieces on our land and are excited to share them with others. We hope you will join us for an Art Walk to learn more about Peter and his work. When: Saturday, October 10, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Where: Rock Point School, Burlington, VT

We have been up and running for over a week now! Things look different, but our students are learning our safety protocols, and we are assessing and adjusting as necessary. We are impressed with how quickly they have adapted and how willing they are to help.

UPDATE: COVID-19 Plan for RPS

on March 16, 2020 By CJ Spirito | transitions COVID-19
On March 15th, the Executive Committee and Administrative Team met regarding updates about COVID-19. The situation is rapidly evolving and recommendations have changed. On that Sunday, the Governor of Vermont issued a mandate that called for Vermont schools to be closed by Wednesday. This has changed our thinking about the plan for keeping Rock Point open. In order to follow best practices happening around us, and lessen the risk for all people in the face of this virus, we have decided to suspend on-campus programming at Rock Point effective Monday, March 16.

COVID-19 Spring 2020 Plan for RPS

on March 13, 2020 By CJ Spirito | COVID-19
At this time, we are all doing well at Rock Point School. Clearly, we are all thinking about and planning for the challenges and concerns that come with the 2019 novel coronavirus. Here are the things we are doing to help keep our community healthy: Increased sanitation of all surfaces in the school, particularly those surfaces that are frequently touched like light switches, desks, and door knobs. Increased hand washing and access to hand sanitizer. Watching for virus symptoms and monitoring by our school nurse. Practicing social distancing respectfully within our community. Significantly lessening trips and interactions beyond school.

Wiffle Fest is a Tournament with Heart!

on July 25, 2019 By CJ Spirito | summer
Wiffle Fest 2019 was our 22nd annual gathering and it was a big success. Thirty-two teams of 2-3 players each, ranging in ages and skill levels spent the day playing on a comfortably sunny and breezy Saturday at the end of June. The teams competed in the “World Series” with Quinn Wardwell and Alex Leamon winning the Majors Division and Isaac and Michael Wood-Lewis winning the Minors Division. Although these teams had each played before, both were first time Champions at Wiffle Fest. The play was competitive and also filled with good sportsmanship and lively banter.

It is with great sadness that I write to you that Alice Rouleau passed away on July 10th. Alice was the beloved wife of John Rouleau, our former Head of School, and contributed to our community in many ways over the years. She will be missed by all of us, especially John and their daughter, Becky.
