Summertime and the livin' is ... BUSY!

SummerSession2017week2.jpg

We've finished Week 2 of Summer Session and it was a full one! Students learned a new skill (for some) with a sewing elective in the morning. In the garden, we harvested radishes and lettuce; planted kale, chard, and lettuce; and weeded everything.

Vermont Exposures traveled to Montpelier on Tuesday to tour the State House. Students had the opportunity to meet the Honorable Justice Harold E. Eaton, Jr. who spoke with them about the Vermont Supreme Court. After touring Montpelier, we drove to Bingham Falls in Stowe, followed by a tour of the Ben and Jerry's Factory in Waterbury! For Thursday's adventure, we stayed closer to home to learn about two approaches to producing electricity at Winooski Hydro One and the McNeill Power Plant.

For the weekend road trip, we traveled to Meredith, New Hampshire where we enjoyed the hospitality of the Ainsworth family (Grace and Steve are parents of two awesome former dorm staff, Joe and Kelly!). Students went hiking and swimming and explored the world's largest arcade (the Funspot). Sunday brought a visit to the Squam Lake Science Center to learn about the wildlife in the area. Another highlight of the trip was a chance meeting with Ben and Jerry, founders of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream!

Phew, what a week!
