While our core classes meet each day in the morning, our electives classes meet three days per week, for one hour, in the afternoon. The goal of the program is to introduce students to new avenues for learning and to encourage them to seek new ways to explore their own creative and educational interests. Students choose a different elective each quarter. The choices change from quarter to quarter and from year to year depending on student interest. Students may also use Electives period as a supervised setting in which to take online courses in foreign languages or online courses in other areas that interest them..

For a sense of some of what we accomplish in this time, please check out our online portfolio of student art.

The afternoon electives program is very much about experimentation, taking chances, and having fun. Recent offerings include:

  • Theater and set design (including on-campus production of student-written plays)
  • Digital animation
  • Jewelry-making
  • Photography
  • Stained Glass
  • Personal Finance
  • Architecture
